Michelle never knew her mom. Well, not never. With her father serving in Vietnam, Michelle and her six older siblings lived with their mother at an Army “Waiting Wives” community at Schilling Air Force Base in Salina, Kansas. But in 1969, their mother would make a decision that would unleash tragedy in their lives, the effects of which Michelle is still struggling with. Their mother left her seven children unattended and began a new life without them and her husband. Forty-one years later, with so many questions in her mind, would finding her mother put it right again?

Under Revision Searching for my Mother Finding Myself eBook Michelle Kohrs Reviews
This memoir has served its purpose of allowing others a glimpse into the life of a child who should be forever scarred, but refuses to be. It is a must-read for anyone with a heart....anyone who was once a child himself...anyone who has a child of his own. May God continue to bless Michelle's life as she grows stronger each day and serves the world with her heart-wrenching testimony.

I believe this writer has needed to tell this account of her life for a long time, and that it allows her to open a much larger chapter in her life in which she may find more comfort. I hope she reads the reviews. I would like her to know that through her courage in sharing her life, she touched this reader in a way that will impact my life. Wonderfully written, a view directly into her heart and soul. Her courage is an inspiration.
Enthralling! I was not able to leave my computer until I was completely finished reading Michelle"s story! Amazing story - amazing woman! The journey throughout one's life can make or break an individual, and the author of this story appears to have made it and made it with a strong spirit to boot! It just goes to show that we don't always know what is going on in a child's life when he or she is at home, and we as educators can hopefully provide some type of hope or encouragement that may mean something later on throughout the child's life! Michelle, thanks for sharing your story, and I would definitely recommend your book to others!
A heartwrenching account of abuse, neglect, and the power of forgiveness; Kohrs takes the reader with her as she sorts through some of the more dark, defining moments of her childhood and chronicles her journey to meet her past face-to-face in the person of her biological mother. Though an emotionally difficult read, this novella, written in the stream of consciousness style, is an honest account of one woman's struggle against the trialing powers of evil that can sometimes exist in the very people entrusted to protect you. Under Revision is a painfully beautiful story of human triumph that highlights the ability of forgiveness to heal personal relationships and foster self-actualization - a must read that highjacks the reader's heart strings until the very last page!
This is an honestly heartwrenching story that makes ones stomach lurch. Life is certainly not a fairy tale and this is absolute proof of that.
I would hate to say that everything happens for a reason, because no child should endure this type of pain. But because of it Michelle is able to provide the positive substance children need in school when it can't be found at home. She is also able to see in an instant when a child is hurt at home and needs someone to notice them. Thank you, Michelle, for changing the lives of many.
First of all, it's one thing to read the honest words of a stranger, but it's quite different when it's someone you know. I had the privilege of knowing the author for two years before moving back to my hometown.
The odds were definitely stacked against the author from day one. She overcomes amazing hardship before finding her success. The author is highly educated, effective in her career, a military veteran, a proud parent, and the list goes on. I feel proud to know this person and I hope that our friendship is more than "in-context." I truly miss the positive vibe that she created and maintained at her school. As a testament, I would send my child there without hesitation. The woman has my respect and now, after reading this book, she also has my sympathy.
After using the services of ancestery.com, Michelle begins searching for her estranged mother. Accompanied by her husband, she treks for endless hours and eventually finds her. But just because she finds her mother, it doesn't necessarily mean that she has found what she was looking for.
Michelle's discovery seems to raise more questions than it does answers. You can feel her pain as the personal narrative that has always driven her forward begins to quickly unravel. The discovery of her mother forces the facing of several unpleasant facts. The reality of these recent revelations seem to both ease and induce self doubt. For one, she learns that her mother is not dead and she is not crazy. Therefore, there is no curse and the author needn't worry about early death or psychosis. However, given that her mother was sane and able, the emotional wounds of neglect cut that much deeper. The author is left to deal with these difficult thoughts and the identity crisis that accompanies them. In the end, she is forced to reassess life and determine what is most important to her. If I know the author as well as I think I do, she will adapt to these new realizations with strength and courage. It is my hope that she finds herself and continues to drive on because we need her. Stay strong, Michelle.
I highly recommend this book.
